“Ballet & Boots” Fashion Editorial – New Portfolio Work

It’s finally here! This awesome labor of love is now ready and finished. A HUGE THANK YOU to the entire crew and all of their hard work on this project from start to finish. So many people played a role in how it turned out, and I love the final piece! The concept was to contrast the beautiful graceful and feminine qualities of a ballerina against an urban backdrop. I also wanted to contrast the feminine aspects with chunky, rugged boots. We feature 3 of my favorite shoe brands, [Dr Martens], [Jeffrey Campbell] and [Steve Madden] – against the wood grain and fluffy tutus!! LOVE!!

I have been sitting on this shoot from last summer with pro-surfer [Bo Stanley] for far too long, and it’s time I share these images from our shoot, as well as the mock-up editorial my designer created for our portfolio. This shoot was something I wanted to personally create to showcase an amazing, healthy model – and feature her in swimwear that would appeal to the [Roxy], Billabong and Hurley brands. To finalize the piece for my portfolio we created an exclusive interview with Bo, and then we put everything together to make it look like a [Foam Magazine] Cover shoot!

This was one of my favorite shoots from last summer, and was already featured on [Navabi] last fall. Bo is a spokesmodel for [Healthy is the New Skinny] and doing this shoot with her is something that is very close to my heart. I want young women to have more role models like Bo to look up to, as she is gorgeous, healthy, and athletic and we need a wider variety of women like her representing us in the fashion industry.

I’m SO EXCITED to finally share this amazing Lookbook editorial I shot with [Horseshoe Boutique] for [Pendleton: The Portland Collection]‘s Fall 2012 line. I have to say this is probably my favorite shoot to date because I LOVE the collection – I was instantly hooked with their debut collection for Fall 2011, and was thrilled at the opportunity to shoot the entire new collection for this year! We set out in early April with the crew of Horseshoe to Eastern WA to romp around the high desert (my favorite!) and capture all these amazing pieces on film. EVERYTHING you see pictured will be available to purchase at [Horseshoe Boutique] this fall (online or in store) – but you better hurry, these coveted collector’s items sell out in a jiff!! Did I mention I want to buy everything!!!

Horseshoe Boutique 2011/2012 Fall/Winter Lookbook

I’m sure many of you don’t know this, but throughout college I worked retail part-time, and did photography part-time until I took my business FULL-time in 2006. Through my years of working at local boutiques around Seattle I met quite a few amazing women and people in business and the fashion industry. I truly believe [Horseshoe] boutique in Ballard is one of the best women’s boutiques we have in the city. Owner Jill Andersen has an extremely kind heart, and the kind of passion for her job you don’t find just anywhere. Jill has been an amazing friend and mentor, and when she asked to hire me to create a lookbook for her brand-new online store I couldn’t have been more thrilled!

The shoot was amazing, we shot along the water at Discovery Park, near the lighthouse. Jill and her store manager Mandy Kruger pulled out all the stops to create each look (12 in total) to highlight the best of the Northwest with all her favorite brands they carry in the store (and now online!). I always love working with Jill, she has such a strong vision, and I was thrilled to be there to capture it all. I think the post-processing really is what ties together the look. I created a washed out, grainy “film look” to compliment the style of Jill’s shop (both in person and online). The action used came from Red Leaf Studio’s [Film Shift Actions] they so graciously sent me a few months ago to experiment with.

Back-to-school is HERE! We just recently shot a fabulous FALL 2011 editorial for our sister site [salt&prep] featuring two fabulous real high school seniors from the Seattle area. CLASS of 2012 SENIORS – with school starting – yearbook deadlines are fast approaching. We have a few last minute openings in late September, and are booked solid through middle of October. Our late summer has us looking forward to a BEAUTIFUL fall, and we will be photographing our portrait clients right through until Thanksgiving, or later depending on how the weather treats us. Grace and Game Golf 2012 Lookbook

While my blog is dedicated to tons of lovely senior portraits, I do also work with designers, and models on creative editorials or “lookbooks”. This shoot was for a client of mine for her newly launched women’s golf clothing line. The title of her line is [Grace & Game]. To me it’s a fusion of JCrew meets Tonic (the Canadian yoga line), with a versatile flair. She’s using organic fabrics, and materials that wick moisture, that are made for comfort and playing sports. I have to admit, that even though I’m awful at golf, being at the shoot, on the course, and around these adorable clothes, made me want to grab an outfit, clubs, a drink, and play my little heart out.

This shoot was a little piece of magic, and I can’t wait for all the success this line will have! The clothes are designed to go from playing golf, to going out. They are versatile, cute, and FUN to wear!

Teu Swimwear Collection 2012 Lookbook

It’s finally here! Earlier this month I worked with Cristina Silva, owner of the former [Tininha's Boutique], to photograph the lookbook of her debut collection of bikinis!

[Teu Swimwear] launches this year with a flirty and daring collection. I had so much fun working with Cristina on this project from start to finish. Hearing all her ideas about the bikinis, and how she wanted to incorporate the look and feel of all the textures and colors of the Fisherman’s Terminal as a background had me so inspired. It was AMAZING to work with [Carla Korbes], a principal ballerina at the PNB here in Seattle as our model. Cristina’s vision came to life in such a fun way and I’m so excited to share the launch of her website. There are 18 beautiful images featured within, so be sure to have a peek! I do have to say the bikinis are beautiful in person, made of thick and soft material (they even have built-in SPF!) They will also be available to purchase through [Horseshoe Boutique] in Ballard.

When life gives you lemons – make lemonade. That’s how the saying goes, right?! When I was down in L.A. last month one of the editorials we were lined up to shoot was canceled due to rain, but since I had two fabulous models scheduled to shoot, I decided to make the most of it, and put together a small creative that I had been wanting to shoot for some time. I took the girls out early in the morning to Venice Beach – no hair/makeup, just pure their pure, raw beauty. My extraordinarily talented stylist [Stacy] had some killer tanks on hand from [Truth Collection] for wardrobe. I wanted to keep it simple – so we embraced the wind, rain and sandy beach for this simple, yet gritty editorial! These are also up on my new [Fashion Portfolio].

Images are straight out of camera, not a smidge of re-touching and processed with [TRA's] “Milk + Cookies” + a touch of “Grainstorm” from the Original action set.
